Artistic
Statement
I dance because, to me, it is a means of discovery and a means of communication. I love to explore how bodies interact with each other and the world around them. Even though these two ideas are an interesting mix, they come together to create my style. I enjoy investigating how far the body can be pushed; not only physical limits, but emotional limits as well. I like to push my dancers to open themselves up to new challenges. With a combination of athleticism and abstract movement, I feel that my
style is quite unique. Growing up, I have always enjoyed algebra and geometry in school, it was where I thrived the most academically. Structurally, I like to play with numbers and choreograph in a mathematical way, seeing what combinations of dancers can be created on stage.
When teaching students, I like to teach in a way that seems the most natural. Human anatomy is extremely important when it comes to the art of dance, and after taking numerous courses in anatomy and dance science, it is now engraved within me more than ever. The anatomical structural of the human body is what allows us dancers to do the amazing things we can do. Using it in the proper way allows us to have a longer, healthier career; and it is important for our students to obtain this knowledge. I also like to integrate fitness into my studio work as well. Muscular tone and strength allows us to do what we do, and it is important to keep our bodies safe and strong, as we only have one them.
